About Ron Mulvey

My Low Maintenance Backyard

The Journey of an Artist

At the ambitious age of seven, I boldly entered an Easter Bunny Coloring Contest at the Rexall Drug store in Ottawa, Ontario. I won $2 and knew that Art was my thing.

My Mother encouraged my development at age 12 by signing me up for art lessons with the local art teacher. In 2 years I had a good working knowledge and a keen interest in painting. I still have a small collection of these early works from 1967 to 1971.

My wife Sara was the real artistic spark in my life, and her encouragement in my early 20's gave me a passion for art that has never dwindled.

My second great landmark after the Easter Bunny was being accepted by the Heffel Gallery in Vancouver in the Early 80's. Since then I have travelled the 'artists road' and am heading towards my next chapter.

Influence of Slocan Valley

Surrounded by the rugged beauty of the mountains and the gentle flow of the river, my art is deeply rooted in the natural world.

The ever-changing seasons in Winlaw, British Columbia, provide a constant source of inspiration, from the soft blooms of spring to the fiery hues of autumn.

My private painting studio, nestled among the trees, is a sanctuary where I can immerse myself in the sights, sounds, and scents of the forest. The artistic community here is a vibrant and supportive one, and I feel fortunate to be a part of it.

As I create, I draw upon the beauty and wonder of this special place, allowing the land and its rhythms to guide my brushstrokes and shape my vision."

The Creative Process

My artistic process is very flexible. I hate getting stale and when I feel the muse is leaving, I get outside and glean inspiration from nature. I will then start 3 or 4 larger works in the studio and use the sketches as reference material to get started.

I have developed a visual memory from all the outdoor sketching, so I need not look at photos or any other references save my sketches and memory.

I then begin the studio work and keep at it until I abandon the painting and move to another. In time I will revisit the works and re-evaluate them and give them some added touches.

As I create, I draw upon the beauty and wonder of this special place, allowing the land and its rhythms to guide my brushstrokes and shape my vision.
